From January through May each year, students are invited to participate in the Art Students League’s class concours exhibition in the Phyllis Harriman Mason Gallery. Under the guidance of their instructors, students select works to display, which will be judged by other League instructors. The judges award Red Dots for those works deemed best in show. At the end of the season, several Red Dot pieces are purchased for the school’s permanent collection.
This week the classes of Martha Bloom, Larry Poons, Cornelia Foss, and Dan Gheno exhibited. Red dots were awarded to Samantha Randolph, Yukako Ishida, and Carlos Arteaga. (Mr. Gheno’s students abstained from the judging process.) Next week’s exhibition will include work from the classes of Ronnie Landfield, William Scharf, and Richard Barnet.
Gallery hours are Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. and Saturday, 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
