Sherry Camhy on Oil Pastel for Drawing

“Crayons for Your Consideration” (PDF here[1]) is Sherry Camhy’s latest article for her “Material World” column in Drawing[2] magazine. More of a category than a medium proper, “crayon,” Camhy explains, is “any dry medium…combined with a binder and molded into a solid form to be applied directly to a surface.” She still recalls an excitement in receiving a new box of crayons as a child, though nowadays she prefers to work in oil pastel as in this 1990 portrait Henry.
